The JobMaker Hiring Credit is now law and applications opened today.
Qualifying businesses can receive $200 per week for an eligible employee aged 16 to 29 years, and $100 per week for an eligible employee aged 30 to 35 years. It is paid quarterly in arrears by the ATO for up to 12 months from the start of employment.
To be eligible, a new employee must have been receiving JobSeeker Payment, Youth Allowance (Other) or Parenting Payment for at least 28 days of the 84 days prior to the date of employment, and be employed between 7th October 2020 and 6th October 2021.
Eligible new employees need to work for a minimum of 20 hours per week (averaged over a quarter). Only one employer can receive the JobMaker Hiring Credit for that employee.
The employment must result in an increase the payroll headcount and expense.
Businesses that receive JobKeeper are not eligible. Employees for who the business receives other subsidies for, including apprentice subsidies, are not eligible.
Businesses with no existing employees at 30th September 2020 will not receive the credit for the first employee.
Employees must be at arms-length, which excludes family members of the business owners.
Applications are open through the ATO from 7th December 2020 and claims can be lodged from 1st February 2021.
